Synopsis
Now in the twilight after rain
The wet black streets shine out again
And softly through the coloured gloom
The lamps like glowing tulips bloom.
Lighted shops down aisles of mist
Smoulder in gold and amethyst
And paved with fragments of the skies
Our sooty town like Venice lies.
Buses like gondolas lifting high
Their sooty prows against the sky
And lighted faces row on row
From darkness into darkness go.
The twilight that never ends… Gray Nights.
Gameplay
Gray Nights tramps through the foggy soup of darkness. A ripper of suspense, players are subjected to an eerily silent evil whose footsteps foreshadow inevitable demise.
Expert. Recommended for players comfortable with puzzles, uncertainty, and a stilted pace.

Storyteller Tips
- Nobody "dies" at night, but if players dither during the day, the Ripper is likely to kill a good player.
- During the night, you may choose not to wake up a drunk or poisoned player, to simulate a Sailor Moon kill. Drunk and poisoned players have no ability, so it's acceptable for a Storyteller to just not wake them.
- When a player is executed, abilities should go off in this order:
- Vagrant
- Crook
- Scapegoat
- Lothario
- Boomdandy
- Urchin
- Waif
- Bezzerit
- Butcher
- The Dogkeeper detects players "targeted" by an evil ability *that night*.
- Detects the Organ Grinder targeted themself to become drunk.
- Detects the Bezzerit targeting themselves to win or the nearest targeted player on the first night.
- Detects the Tokhsisis targeted player.
- Detects the Sailor Moon targeted player.
- If the Absinth Addict is in play and not drunk, the Dogkeeper detects the player
- targeted instead of the player
- chosen by the Demon.
- In a Hypnotist game, some evil Townsfolk & Outsiders can be detected this way.
- Detects the evil Investigator by the nearest targeted player on the first night.
- Detects the evil Dancer by the nearest targeted Townsfolk on the first night.
- Detects the evil Copper by the nearest targeted player.
- Detects the evil Dogkeeper same target player.
- Detects the evil Urchin by the nearest targeted woken player.
- Detects the evil Prodigy player targeting themself to become drunk or the nearest targeted player affected by their gained ability (when not drunk).
- Detects the evil Undertaker by the targeted executed player.
- Detects the evil Nightwatchman targeted player.
- Detects the evil Absinthe Addict players targeting themself to become drunk or the nearest Hypnotist.
- Detects the evil Hedonist by the nearest targeted alive neighbor on the first night or if a new player is targeted that night due to the Sailor Moon.
- Detects the evil Lothario's targeted player.
- Detects the evil Fraudster targeting themself on the night they turn evil.
- Detects the evil Puzzlemaster's targeted drunk player on the first night, even if the Puzzlemaster is dead.
- Detects the evil Harlot targeted player.
- If the Waif is executed, the Dogkeeper's information is not affected. Players are still targeted by evil abilities, but not affected by harmful ones.
- If an evil player is droisoned or otherwise has lost their ability, that evil player's ability will not be detected.
- If an evil player is dead, that evil player's ability will not be detected unless it works even if dead.
- Detects the Boomdandy affected killed player.
- Detects the Crook affected executed player.
- Detects the Organ Grinder affecting themself to become drunk.
- Detects the Bezzerit affected player.
- Detects the Tokhsisis affected poisoned player.
- Detects the Sailor Moon affected misregistering player.
- In a Hypnotist game, some evil Townsfolk & Outsiders can be detected this way.
- Detects the evil Prodigy affecting themself to become drunk.
- Detects the evil Driver affecting themself to gain false information if their neighbors are of different alignments.
- Detects the evil Waif affecting anyone.
- Detects the evil Absinthe Addict affecting themself to become drunk.
- Detects the evil Hedonist affected drunk player.
- Detects the evil Lothario affecting themself to lose.
- Detects the evil Vagrant affecting themself when executed to their own ability.
- Detects the evil Puzzlemaster affected drunk player, even if the Puzzlemaster is dead.
- If the Waif is executed, the following (evil) abilities would not be detected the following day: Prodigy, Driver, Absinthe Addict, Hedonist, Lothario, Puzzlemaster, Organ Grinder, Bezzerit, Tokhsisis, and Sailor Moon.
- If an evil player is droisoned or otherwise has lost their ability, that evil player's ability will not be detected on any character.
- If an evil player is dead, that evil player's ability will not be detected unless it works even if dead.
- Boomdandy: Cannot kill players when executed.
- Crook: Cannot execute a player when a vote is tied.
- Organ Grinder: Cannot drunk themselves and cannot cause eyes-closed voting.
- Bezzerit: Cannot cause good to lose (this only occurs if the Waif is the last Bezzerit affected player).
- Tokhsisis: Cannot poison a player (do not place a token). Previously poisoned players are immediately healthy (do not remove existing tokens). The next dusk, previously poisoned players are poisoned again.
- Sailor Moon: Cannot kill players. Previously killed players are announced as dead immediately (do not remove existing tokens). The next dusk, previously killed players register as alive during the day again, but do not make an announcement (they still appear dead).
- Hypnotist: Cannot turn players evil or lose their ability.
- In a Hypnotist game, some evil Townsfolk & Outsiders can be affected this way.
- Evil Prodigy: Cannot drunk themselves.
- Evil Driver: Cannot gain false information if their neighbours are on different teams.
- Evil Absinthe Addict: Cannot drunk themselves and cannot change the target of the Demon's ability.
- Evil Hedonist: Cannot drunk alive neighbors.
- Evil Lothario: Cannot lose from their ability.
- Evil Vagrant: Cannot be executed from their ability.
- Evil Fraudster: Cannot become good from their ability.
- Evil Puzzlemaster: Cannot drunk their targeted player & always correctly learn the Demon player.
- Evil Harlot: Cannot kill themselves or their target player.
- Evil Gangster: Cannot kill an alive neighbor.
- Evil Scapegoat: Cannot execute themselves.
- There are two sources of "false information" on the script: The Driver and the Puzzlemaster. You may want to view their individual pages.
- The Driver & Puzzlemaster only gain false info for their own abilities.
- If the Driver or Puzzlemaster is drunk or poisoned, their information may be arbitrary.

- In a Hypnotist game, the Knight is amazing confirmation.
- Night Owl information is harder to sort through in a single day, but is more useful as the game continues.
- Updated the Druggist ability to use "targeted" instead of "affected", so it doesn't constantly check against the Organ Grinder.
- Replaced Clockmaker with the Knight.
- The Clockmaker was either too powerful or pointless.
- The Knight serves a similar purpose and works in all setups.
- Replaced Librarin with the Dancer secret character.
- The Librarian was lackluster.

- The Poppins was lackluster and required a jinx with the Bezzerit.

- The Exorcist was powerful, but gave the player no feedback.
- The Fairy is similar, but allows the player to play mindgames with the Demon. Other players can help the Fairy detect their ability working.
- Replaced Balloonist with the Poppins secret character.
- The Balloonist didn't fit the theme of this script. The Poppins is perfect in every way.
- Replaced Stableboy with the Illusionist homebrew character.
- Stableboy was a more powerful King and not super on theme.
- Illusionist calls upon some prestige and ability duplication.
- Replaced Flowergirl with the Waif homebrew character.
- Flowergirl was too powerful in such a long game.
- Waif provides a one-time protection and source of information.

- Added Bezzerit and Tokhsisis homebrew characters.
- Added Doxie, Dogkeeper, Pissboy, Driver, Fraudster, Lothario, Shroom, Sailor Moon, and Hypnotist secret characters.
