Summary

"If you die by execution, all players are safe from evil abilities & truly register until dusk tomorrow."

The Waif causes almost all abilities to function correctly for one night and one day.

  • When the Waif is executed and dies, all players become safe from evil and truly register immediately and stay that way all through the night and all the following day. Townsfolk, Outsiders, Minions, and even Demons and Travellers are affected. This does not happen if the Waif dies outside of an execution.
  • If the Waif is executed while dead, their ability does not trigger—a dead character cannot die again! If the Waif is drunk or poisoned when they die by execution, the Waif ability is not triggered.
  • The Waif only protects from abilities held by evil players. For instance, the Waif cannot stop a drunk effect created by a good player.
  • The Waif ability ensures all players are unaffected by abilities that cause misregistration, such as the Recluse, Shroom, Spy, Sailor Moon, or Zombuul.

The Waif ability prevents harmful evil abilities from being applied, but does not remove reminder tokens. The next dusk, those players will be affected by those abilities again.

How to Run

During the day, if the Waif dies by execution, all other players are no longer affected by evil abilities and truly register—put the Waif's SAFE & TRUE reminder in the center of the left side of the Grimoire.

At dusk tomorrow, all players protected or truly registering by the Waif return to their normal status-remove the SAFE & TRUE reminder.

When the Waif ability is triggered, announce any players registering as alive to be dead and announce any players registering as dead to be alive. Do not announce any change in status the next dusk.

Examples

During the first day, the Waif is executed. The Apothecary, who was previously poisoned by the Tokhsisis, immediately becomes healthy. That night, the Tokhsisis attempts to poison another player, but fails to do so. The next dusk, the Apothecary becomes poisoned by the Tokhsisis again.

During the second day, the Waif is executed. Nothing happens because the Waif was already killed by the Sailor Moon, so cannot die.

During the third day, the Waif is executed. Nothing happens because the Waif was drunk by the Puzzlemaster when they died.

During the fourth day, the Waif is executed. All players previously killed by the Sailor Moon are announced as dead. That night, the Sailor Moon kills the Fraudster. The next dawn, the Fraudster is announced as dead. The next dusk, all Sailor Moon killed players start registering as alive again (except the Fraudster), but no announcement is made.

During the fifth day, the Waif is executed. The Zombuul is announced as alive. The next dusk, the Zombuul registers as dead again, but no announcement is made.

Tips & Tricks

  • Try to get yourself executed immediately! The town can trust their information as soon as you can die.
  • Wait to get executed until the evil team is confident in their misinformation. They can be caught out in a lie.
  • Gain a few confidants amoung the town so that you have supporters when you try to die. Some of them might even be able to confirm you!
  • Make sure to let the good team know after you are executed that their abilities are safe until tomorrow night.
  • If you're good, you may still want to bluff as the Waif before or after you die, so the evil team may waste time targetting you or out correct information.

Bluffing as the Waif

When bluffing as the Waif, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

  • If you are the Boomdandy, bluffing as the Waif is a great way to get your own ability to trigger.
  • Even if you are a different Minion, getting executed while bluffing as the Waif can cause misinformation, as the town may trust information they should not.
  • If you are the Demon, it can be dangerous to bluff as the Waif: you might get executed. When you are nominated, have another bluff you can back into to avoid getting executed.
