Summary

"If the Demon attacks a player, it attacks one of their living neighbors instead. Each night*, choose if you are drunk or not."

The Absinthe Addict causes the Demon confusion and consternation by changing their targets at night.

  • If the Absinthe Addict is drunk, the Demon acts as normal.
  • The Absinthe Addict does not redirect Demon targets to dead players. They move the target to the next alive player in that direction.
  • When the Absinthe Addict redirects the Demon's target, the Storyteller chooses which player (left or right).
  • The Absinthe Addict does not cause the Demon to "choose" the new target for the purposes of such abilities.
  • Only the new target is affected by the Demon, instead of the target the Demon chose.
  • The Storyteller does not inform the Demon whether the Absinthe Addict is in play or drunk.

The Absinthe Addict is always sober the first night.

How to Run

Each night except the first, wake the Absinthe Addict. The Absinthe Addict either nods or shakes their head. If they nod their head, mark them with the DRUNK reminder. Put the Absinthe Addict to sleep.

If the Absinthe Addict is sober when the Demon targets players, redirect the Demon's targets to alive neighbours.

Demon targets should usually be redirected to Townsfolk when possible.

Examples

On the first night, the Absinthe Addict is sober. The Bezzerit chooses the Fraudster and Hedonist. Instead, the Driver and Urchin are targeted.

On the second night, the Absinthe Addict is drunk. The Tokhsisis chooses the Absinthe Addict and they are now poisoned.

The Waif is executed. Even though the Absinthe Addict chooses to be drunk, they are still sober. The Sailor Moon chooses the Absinthe Addict's neighbour and the Abinsthe Addict is targeted instead; The Absinthe Addict is does not die because they are protected by the Waif. The Dogkeeper detects the Absinthe Addict as their nearest living player.

Tips & Tricks

  • Bluff as a different character. The moment the evil team finds out who you are, you become a target. Just finding out you exist can help the Demon work out which choices they made were wrong.
  • Change it up. If you think the evil team is on to your ability, make yourself drunk. The Demon might target the neighbour of the player they wanted to target instead.
  • Once you have an idea what the Demon type is, you can consult with the Houndskeeper and Apothecary to figure out which players were affected by the Demon.

Bluffing as the Absinthe Addict

  • Bluff as something else first, a real Absinthe Addict is likely to hide themselves.
  • Tell the good team which nights you were "drunk".
  • Instead, be open about being the Absinthe Addict. Good players might believe this is a good Absinthe Addict making a double bluff.
