Summary

"Each night, choose 2 living players: that night, abilities that target one, target the other instead. The demon cannot die this way."

The Snake Oil can redirect abilities between players, protected them or gathering information.

• After one of the two chosen players is targeted for an ability, the other player becomes the target.
• The original of the two targets is unaffected by the redirected ability.

Sometimes the target of an ability is not the same as a player chosen by an ability.

How to Run

Each night, wake the Snake Oil. The Snake Oil points to any two players. Place the Snake Oil's SWAP reminder by the chosen players. Put the Snake Oil to sleep.

When other abilities target a player with the SWAP token, the other player with the SWAP token becomes the actual target instead.

At dawn, remove the SWAP reminders.

If there are multiple instances of the Snake Oil ability in play, the target may be swapped once by each ability.

Examples

The Snake Oil chooses the Lucky Cat and the Snake Charmer. The Poisoner chooses and targets the Snake Charmer, but the Lucky Cat is the final target because of the Snake Oil's ability, the Lucky Cat becomes poisoned.

The Snake Oil chooses the Ambassador and the Acrobat. The Village Village Idiot chooses the Godfather, but the Ambassador is targeted because of the Ambassador's ability. The Acrobat is the final target because of the Snake Oil's ability, so the Village Idiot receives a thumbs up.

The Snake Oil chooses the Hagy Bagy and the Enlightened One. The Hagy Bagy chooses the Ban Xian, but the Hagy Bagy is targeted because of the Ban Xian's ability. The Enlightened One is the final target because of the Snake Oil's ability, and affected by the Hagy Bagy's ability. The Enlightened One becomes the Lucky Cat because of their own abilty, and then the Butler because of the Hagy Bagy's ability.

The Snake Oil chooses the Goon and the Macho Man. The Snake Oil becomes drunk because of the Goon's ability, then dies because of the Macho Man's ability, and the Snake Oil's chosen players are targeted normally tonight.

The Apprentice has the Snake Oil ability. The Pauper gained the Snake Oil ability. The Snake Oil chooses the Circe and the Hagy Bagy, the Apprentice chooses the Butler and the Hagy Bagy, and the Pauper chooses the Butler and the Wraith. The Fortune Teller is duped by the Circe, and chooses the Ban Xian. The Wraith is targeted because of the Ban Xian's ability. The Butler is targeted because of the Pauper's ability. The Hagy Bagy is targeted because of the Apprentice's ability. The Circe is the final target because of the Snake Oil's ability. The Compere is the Storyteller and chooses to kill the Circe, but the Circe cannot die because of the Snake Oil's ability. Only the Balloonist dies tonight.
