Summary
"Each night*, choose a player (not yourself): the 1st time they die tonight, they instead become a different Townsfolk & drunk until dawn."
The Lucky Cat brings prosperity to those that host them. Preventing calamity can be life-changing.
- Each night except the first, the Lucky Cat may choose to protect any player except themselves.
- The first time the Lucky Cat's target dies for any reason that night, they remain alive. They don’t learn that the Lucky Cat saved their life.
- Instead, that player changes character into a Townsfolk. If they are already a Townsfolk, they must change into a different Townsfolk.
- They Lucky Cat can create duplicate characters, but this should be rare.
- If another character’s ability protects the Lucky Cat's target from death, the Lucky Cat does not use their ability.
The Lucky Cat might accidentally save an evil player. If they do, that player becomes an evil Townsfolk.
How to Run
Each night except the first, wake the Lucky Cat. The Lucky Cat points at any player except themselves. Put the Lucky Cat's PRINCE reminder token by the chosen player's character token.
If the player marked PRINCE dies, the player remains alive. (Do not mark them with a DEAD reminder token or add a shroud.) Instead, choose a Townfolk character that isn't the same as that player's current character. Wake that player. Show them the YOU ARE info token, then their new character token, then put them to sleep. Replace their old character token with the new character token. Mark them with the Prince's DRUNK reminder token and remove the PRINCE reminder token.
At dawn, remove the PRINCE or DRUNK reminder token.
Examples
The Lucky Cat chooses the Balloonist at night. Later that night, the Balloonist is killed by the Poppins's ability because they had their hands over their eyes. The Balloonist does not die, & instead the Storyteller changes the Balloonist into the Minstrel.
Tips & Tricks
- Your goal is to keep valuable good players alive and stall the evil team's mayhem. Try to predict who the evil team may target each night based on the available information in the game and how the players are acting.
- If you end up protecting someone, they will change into another character. Avoid protecting players that the good team needs to rely on, and instead focus on procecting players that are confirmed but their abilities are not as important right now.
Bluffing as the Lucky Cat
When bluffing as the Lucky Cat, there are a few things you should keep in mind:
- Each night, go up to a living player and ask if they changed characters last night.
- Your choice for who you protect should have some logic behind it. If a publicly revealed Fortune Teller dies on your watch, that can be a big clue that you are not who you say you are. However, if you tell the group that you don't believe that the Fortune Teller is telling the truth, and that you instead protected a player that has privately revealed that they are the Poppins to you, your choices seem much more reasonable. You can come up with all sorts of reasons about why you protected player A instead of player B, particularly if you prepare what you are going to say beforehand.
