Circe
Spoiler Alert: This is a secret character: read ahead at your own peril.
Summary
"Each night* you may choose 3 players to dupe (all players learn who): each silently chooses a different alive player, 2 of which die."
The Circe delegates the task of killing players to other players, who are forced to pick who might die.
- The Circe may choose three players per night. Everyone learns which three were chosen. Each player makes their choice before the next player is revealed.
- All players must be silent when the Circe acts at night. This period lasts from when the Storyteller first declares that a player has been chosen, until the Storyteller says that it ends.
- If the Circe chooses no one, no announcement is made and nobody dies to the Circe tonight.
- The Circe's chosen "dupes" must each choose a unique alive player.
- A dupe can choose themselves if they are alive.
- If the "dupe" chooses a dead or previously chosen alive player accidentally, the Storyteller prompts them to choose again.
- The dupes cannot choose the same player twice even if the Circe target is redirected.
- The Storyteller determines which two players of the three chosen will die in any order. The Storyteller can choose players who are safe from the Demon or cannot die at night, but those players will not die. This will mean less than 2 players die to the Circe.
Generally, the Storyteller will not kill the Circe with their own ability.
How to Run
Each night except the first, wake the Circe. They may point at three players. If they do, mark these players with the 1, 2 and 3 reminders, in the order the Circe chose. Put the Circe to sleep. Wake the player marked 1 and say “The Circe has duped” then the name of the player, then “Choose who may die.” The dupe chooses an alive player and mark them with the CHOSEN reminder. Put them to sleep. Repeat for players marked 2 then 3; they must choose different players. Choose two of the chosen players to die in any order, mark them with the DEAD reminder.
You may need to remind all players to be silent as the Circe acts. This includes non-verbal noise. This prevents dupes from signaling to others how they have chosen.
Examples
The Circe chooses the Acrobat, the Ban Xian, and the Goon. The Circe becomes drunk, the Goon turns evil, and no dupes are announced. The night continues.
The Circe chooses the Village Idiot, the Village Idiots, and the dead Hagy Bagy. The first Village Idiot chooses the Godfather, but the Ambassador redirects the target to themselves with the Ambassador ability. The second Village Idiot chooses the Circe. The dead Hagy Bagy chooses the Beast Tamer. The Ambassador has their eyes closed and the Beast Tamer does not. Compere chooses to kill the Beast Tamer first, then the Ambassador, and both of them die.
Explanation
This character was modified from it's original ability: "Each night* choose 3 players to dupe: each chooses a different alive player, 2 of which die. All players learn who you duped."
