Summary

"You are safe from all other abilities. After the 1st time you are nominated, you lose your ability. [+0 or +1 Outsider]"

The Brownie is invincible...right up until they are nominated.

  • The following effects are blocked by the Brownie's ability to be safe:
    • Dying.
    • Becoming drunk or poisoned.
    • Turning evil or good.
    • Becoming mad.
    • Becoming muddled. ("You think" abilities).
    • Losing their ability.
    • Failing to wake.
    • Gaining false information, including via misregistration.
    • Having their ability's target(s) changed.
    • Having their ability's effect(s) blocked.
  • When a harmful ability targets the Brownie, the Brownie is unaffected and no harmful reminder tokens are placed. If the Brownie is nominated and loses their ability, previously harmful abilities that attempted to target the Brownie are still not in effect.

The Brownie can still win or lose based on other players' abilities. It only protects from another character targeting the Brownie to lose the game.

How to Run

During setup, you may add an Outsider.

When an ability would harm the Brownie, that ability does not take affect.

The first time any player nominates the Brownie, the Brownie loses their ability—put the Brownie's NO ABILITY reminder token by the Brownie token.

Abilities that don't harm the Brownie can still affect them, such as changing them into a new character or providing them information.

Examples

At night, the Vigormortis attacks the Brownie. The Brownie does not die.

At night, the Cerenovus chooses the Brownie to be "mad" about being the Nymph. The Brownie does not wake.

The Swiper is "mad" about being the Brownie. The Brownie is not poisoned and the Swiper does not gain the Brownie ability.

At night, the Witch chooses the Brownie, but the Brownie does not get the CURSED reminder token. The Princess nominates the Brownie, who loses their ability. The Brownie nominates the Princess, but does not die.

At night, the Nightwatchman chooses the Brownie. The Brownie learns that player is the Nightwatchman.

The Golem nominates the Brownie, the Brownie does not die, but loses their ability.

Tips & Tricks

  • Bluff something powerful to draw the evil team's attacks.
  • Tell a few players who you trust that you are the Brownie, so that they don't nominate you.
  • The evil team will eventually notice their abilities don't work on you, and nominate you to stop you from being protected.
  • When a player nominates you they are likely to be evil taking away your ability.
  • If a harmful ability would affect you, it will just fail. You may never know how many times you were protected.
  • Once you lose your ability, tell the town what happened.
  • If you lose your ability early, keep it secret so the evil team may think a Brownie is still in play.

Bluffing as the Brownie

When bluffing as the Brownie, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

  • The Brownie would never wake at night. You would never learn if you were targeted by an evil ability.
  • Don't double claim anyone until you have been nominated, a real Brownie would never be mad.
  • The Brownie has a good reason to survive at night, which you can use to explain your longevity as other players die. This makes it a great bluff for a Minion.
  • Come out to a few players in private early on in the game, so that when you eventually reveal you are more trusted.
  • You (or your Demon) can choose to kill an already dead player at night. This will give the illusion that no death actually occurred, allowing you to claim that you were targeted instead.
  • The Brownie is a fantastic fallback if another bluff doesn't work out. Coming out on the final day as the Brownie who was "in hiding" can alleviate suspicion.
  • Be careful bluffing as the Brownie as a Demon, once you are nominated, the town may no longer think they should keep you around.
  • As a good player, bluffing as the Brownie can get the evil team to nominate you, which may show their hand as evil.
