Summary
"Each night*, choose a player: they die. 1 good player knows you are 1 of 2 players. If executed while a Minion lives, evil wins."
The Mask rudely announces itself, but forces the good team to look for Minions before they can be executed.
- On the 1st night that The Mask is in play acts, one good player is woken, shown two players, and learns The Mask is one of them.
- If The Mask is executed before all Minions are dead, the evil team wins.
- If there is a Minion alive on the last day, the evil team has won.
How to Run
While preparing the first night, mark a good player with the KNOW reminder. On the first night, wake the player marked KNOW. Show them The Mask character token. Point to The Mask and any other player. Put that good player to sleep.
Each night except the first, wake The Mask. The Mask points at any player. The chosen player dies—put The Mask's DEAD reminder by the chosen player's character token in the Grimoire and put a shroud on it.
It is usually best to pick a good player as the other character known as The Mask. If a Minion is among the two, the good team may never find them.
If the player marked KNOW becomes evil, another player must learn of The Mask.
Examples
A good player learns of The Mask, but they are not believed. The Mask is executed and the evil team wins.
The Mask is executed, but the Nganga is in play and registers as a Minion. The evil team wins.
Tips & Tricks
- Throw suspicion on the player learning of The Mask or the other player learned as The Mask. That way if your Minions are killed, you might still survive.
- Avoid talking to your Minions. If players watch who speaks to whom, they might suspect your Minions of being evil.
- If everyone believes you are The Mask. Give away either misinformation or truths. Even if you are never believed, you are wasting the good team's time and helping them second guess themselves.
- If you're a Minion, do your best to lay low and stay alive. The longer you live, the more likely your team is to winning.
Fighting The Mask
- If you discover The Mask is in play, focus on finding and executing Minions. Discovering who The Mask is can wait until the end of the game.
- Watch who The Mask candidates talk to; it's a good way to find the evil team.
- Avoid putting a lot of weight on what The Mask candidates are sharing. They might be fabrications.
- Once you think all the Minions are dead, turn your attention to discovering which of the two players is The Mask.
