This can be useful in online lobbies.
How to Run
At any time when a player falls asleep, rage quits, or has an emergency declare that the Submariner is in play.
If you are playing online, consider turning off Grimoire access requests so players don't accidentally remove themselves from becoming the substitute.
If a substitute player cannot be found, consider using the Fiddler instead.
Examples
A player falls asleep in their seat. The Storyteller declares that the Submariner is in play. No one can be found so the Fiddler is used to end the game.
A player is upset that they were the Demon and were snake-charmed on the first day. They grouchily leave the game while making inappropriate statements about the Storyteller's mother. The Storyteller declares that the Submariner is in play. While everyone is making posts on Discord, three players enter the lobby. One instantly gets Grimoire access and no longer is a suitable substitute, to their dismay. One is just here to complain to the Storyteller about the treatment received by the former Demon. Finally one arrives, sees the useful Submariner Fabled, and asks to be a substitute. Everyone left in the game is delighted, as this new player is totally chill.
