"They Mostly Come At Night... Mostly."

Summary

"Travellers only enter the game at night."

Use the Aliens to warn Travellers that they cannot enter a game in progress during the day.

How to Run

At any time, declare that the Aliens is in play. This is best done before setting up the game.

Tell Travellers that wish to enter the game that they are not mechanically part of the game until the next Night. They can communicate with other players, but do not know what team they are on.

In the online app, there are two options for Storytellers.

  • Do not open a seat for the Traveller until the next Night.
  • Open a seat for the Traveller, but mark them as dead and take away their ghost vote. Mark them as alive at Dusk.

Examples

The Storyteller declares that the Aliens is in play at the start of the game.

A player was attending a bar mitzvah and arrived to the Blood on the Clocktower game shamefully late. The Storyteller informs them that the Aliens is in play and that they can become a Traveller during the next Night. The player tries to talk to the other players to ask for information, but they are low-key ignored.

Explanation

Having a Traveller join in the middle of the Day can distract the Storyteller with Traveller upkeep. Determining what team they Traveller is on can be a tricky balancing act. By waiting until the next night, decisions about the Traveller can be made with more purpose and clarity.

The Aliens is not intended to punish Travellers.
