"Ask meta questions, get meta answers."

Summary

"The Storyteller will not be meta'd."

Use Capricious to let players know that using logic based on common Storyteller decisions is unlikely to be useful in this game .

How to Run

At any time, declare that Capricious is in play. This is best done before setting up the game.

Tell players that the Storyteller will often have random setup and make niche or surprising decisions.

Examples

The Storyteller declares that Capricious is in play at the start of the game. The Storyteller informs the Washerwoman that either themselves or the Spy is the Undertaker, informs the Librarian that either themselves or the Spy is the Drunk, and informs the Investigator that either themselves or the Spy is the Spy. The Spy claims that one of these players is the Drunk, one is poisoned, and the last one is a copycat and lying. Evil ends up winning due to the Spy's strange misregistrations, and everyone has a good laugh.

Explanation

Strange and unusual setups can challenge players to think of edge cases and extreme examples.

Capricious is not intended to punish players, but can increase the challenge of any script.
